“Sliver = a piece cut or split off, a splinter, shiver, slice (also fig.)” (Oxford English Dictionary). I became drawn to this juxtaposing of two ways of seeing. Initially I called them “slivers”, but also considered “glimpses” or “openings”. I like the combination of the abstract and representational, the sense of seeing at two different scales. Why consign cut-up/collage to an apparently lost modernism? I like that “shiver, slice (also figurative)”.
